Making a Good First Impression

Jelena Goranovic Speaking

Another successful event has been and gone. This was all about making that all important first impression. We had Dr Jelena Goranavic in to give us some valuable advice and we even left with some homework!  Everything started with a glass of prosecco and lots of mingling before getting comfortable and listening to Jelena.

Mingling

I thought I’d share a few tips that I gleaned from the discussions.  I’m sure we all know that the first impression is largely made on our appearance, I’m not sure what that says about us, but we are visual creatures, so it’s to be expected.  If you’re feeling a bit stressed about going to an event, or you’re coming from “one of those days” (we’ve all had them, the dog has eaten our notes, or we couldn’t find the keys when we were leaving, so now we’re rushing). Before you enter the room, take 3 deep breaths and just give yourself a moment to slow down. Straighten yourself up and correct your posture. This gives the illusion that you are in control of the situation and you’re calm and collected. Let’s face it, few of us want to approach someone that is looking frazzled or a tad manic. So take a few moments to gather yourself.

Now you’re back in control and ready to mingle. Next thing to focus on? Tone of voice and engagement. Know your audience, talk to them in a way that will appeal to them and focus on engaging with them.  Match the same language as the person you’re talking to, it helps them feel relevant and aids their understanding.   The last thing to think about is all about what you say.  Don’t be confusing in what you say, prepare your pitch, some of us struggle to convey our business message.  So maybe spend some time considering how you want to communicate clear, coherent and a consistent business message.

Lots more was discussed on the night as you might imagine.  We all got to practice our pitches and get honest feedback, which was incredibly useful and gave us all something to think about.

The sponsor on the night was Essential Oils and You with a glorious selection of oils available on the night.  I think we all spent time smelling the various scents and I know one of our therapists Claire Robillard uses some of these oils in her treatments.  They all smelt divine.

There was a lot of positive feedback on the night and we’re so pleased that those involved found the evening useful moving forward.  As I mentioned, we all had a bit of homework, a few worksheets given out by Jelena.  All focusing making a good impressed and focusing on knowing your pitch.

Next month we have a Raghav Prakash speaking on the topic Master Your Mindset.  You can read more about it here and book your tickets now to get the early-bird price.  It’s taking place on Wednesday 29 March 2017 from 6-7.30pm.
