Running a Heart-led Business & Avoiding Burnout

Ebonie Allard Speaking

It has only been a few weeks since our first ever Healthy Business Hub gathering.  We were lucky enough to have a local business coach  Ebonie Allard give a talk on how to run a heart-led business and avoid burnout and breakdown.  Ebonie has helped creative entrepreneurs choose curiosity over fear, and reframe uncertainty.  I can honestly say, her talk was wonderfully enlightening as she shared her own career journey, with personal anecdotes to help clarify certain points.

Key Points

A few things that stuck out from her talk, the practice of asking yourself certain questions every day, for example, Will it help my business? or Will it make me money?  We also discussed how to prioritise yourself to avoid burnout, placing yourself at the top of the social pyramid and learning to say No.  Lastly, there was a phrase that will stick in my head for months to come.  Community over Competition.  We all want to grow our business and one way of approaching this is to focus on growing your community, helping out others in your field, share knowledge and support each other.  This can often lead to business growth as people would prefer to share a friend that they trust, than someone they feel they are in competition with.  Plus it’s nice to have a friend to understand the things are you going through in your business.

Mingling

After we all enjoyed Ebonie’s talk, we got down to the serious business of mingling and sharing our own experiences.  It is wonderful to see friendships forming and to see bonds strengthen among those that had previously met at the 5th Birthday Celebrations (click on the link to read all about that).

There were two wonderful local sponsors there on the night. The Protein Ball Co, I sampled most of their products and they were incredibly tasty, I think my favourite was the Lemon + Pistachio.  In saying that, I would happily eat them all.  They are gluten free, wheat free, vegetarian – some are vegan – no GMOS, soy or added sugar.  So a great healthy snack option.

Our second sponsor was YouJuice.  They are in 3 locations across Brighton & Hove.   I tested a few of their juices, quality control you understand…I had a shot of Ginger, Lemon and Apple, after which I definitely felt wide awake and ready to take on the world.  I did love the L2, which contained Spirulina, Apple, Pineapple, Kale, Celery, Lime, Cucumber and Avocado.  This was smoother and I could happily drink this every day.  They have a large selection of juices available and I look forward to trying them all.

Recap & Next Gathering

All in all, I think this was a roaring success as our first Health Business Hub gathering.  Lots of ideas shared, questions answered and bounds created. It’s wonderful to be able to offer small business coaching and we aim to continue offering talks on a diverse range of topics.  I’m looking forward to our next event, you can find out more about it on our Healthy Business Hub facebook event page or you can buy your tickets directly here.

Our Guest Speaker at the next gathering is Jelena Goranovic. Jelena will focus on Creating A Great First Impressionace with your clients, networking or making an important pitch, creating a lasting positive impression is vital. This talk will provide some useful tips to help you create and maintain rapport with prospective clients and get them interested in what you have to offer, including the importance of clarifying your own memorable business identity that you (and the people who represent your business) need to reflect in every aspect of your appearance and behaviour. Getting this first impression right can really open doors for you and your business!

Of course, there will still be plenty of mingling and a glass of fizz to help things along.
