Up, up and away!

It’s the time of year for summer holidays, but is a fear of flying limiting your life? Has it stopped you seeing the places or people you want to see? If the thought of getting on a plane fills you with sheer terror, read what Hypnotherapy and NLP therapist Matthew has to say about treating the phobia:

‘Snakes on a Plane’; plane crashes and documented near misses; nervous travellers – these can all evoke emotions that you identify with and may pass onto others, cementing a feeling of fright in yourself. This process can cause an automatic fearful response when faced with flying. This leads to learned, unconscious behaviour.

Genuine traumatic events while flying, such as extreme turbulence, can also trigger a phobia, as the memory of the event and the fear are relived when thinking about flying.

To treat a limiting phobia, regardless of how it was formed, we alter the existing phobic behavioural pattern. This enables the client to approach the situation in a different way, making new possibilities and experiences available to them, which can result in getting on a plane becoming as natural as catching a bus.
