Does your baby seem unsettled? Are you looking for a relaxing, natural way to calm your baby? Craniosacral therapist Deborah’s weekly Mother and Baby clinic could be just what you need, Mondays 9am-1pm at BHT. Read what she has to say about how CST can help settle babies:
It’s no wonder that following birth, mum and baby can experience difficulties as dramatic changes occur in their nervous and hormonal systems. Endorphins, adrenaline, prolactin and oxytocin are all thrown into the hormonal cocktail that can take a while to balance and for mum and baby to feel settled.
With safe surroundings, nurture from parents, feeding, crying (yes, crying can be a good thing), babies usually naturally settle into their new environment. However, if baby is unable to self-regulate, symptoms may occur.
If you are having issues with any of the following, CST can help and is fast becoming recognised as a treatment to help mum and baby settle and bond following birth:
- Does your baby make eye contact when crying? If not, their nervous system may be unable to self-regulate
- How does baby’s head look? If it is misshapen following birth, CST can assist with remoulding
- Does your baby startle easily or are they sensitive to touch in certain areas (often the head, feet and torso)?
- Is there over-sleeping or excessive waking during the night?
- Does the baby have a distressed or colicky cry?
Remember the basics: skin-to-skin contact, food, a peaceful environment and quiet time with immediate family is all most babies need – simply love and nurture.
